SOKL is an ongoing series of decolonial actions.

An empty pedestal - a copy of a pedestal that carries a statue of colonial king Leopold II in the center of Brussels - travels through the city. Where it lands, it offers a dubious decor for artists who bring their own views on power & (de)colonisation. The king is gone, there’s space for other stories.

SOKL first lived as an installation, accompanying the film Échangeur at screenings in Antwerp & Brussels in 2016. Three years later, SOKL reappeared in the city streets, this time as an invitation for artists and activists to intervene. For a full month SOKL hosted performances, installations, workshops and screenings. In 2023 we’re organizing the third edition of the festival. It’s the first time the pedestal moves to Ostend.

SOKL is een serie van dekoloniale acties.

Een lege sokkel - een houten kopie van een sokkel die in Brussel een beeld van de koloniale koning Leopold II draagt - reist door de stad. Waar de sokkel landt vormt het een dubieus decor voor artiesten die hun eigen visies op macht en (de)kolonisatie brengen. De koning is weg, er is plaats voor andere verhalen.

SOKL est une série des actions décoloniales en ville.

Dans la rue il y a un socle vide, réplique en bois du socle surmonté d'une statue de Léopold II dans le centre de Bruxelles. Contrairement à la structure originale, cette réplique n'est pas occupée par un roi colonisateur, mais il sert de décor à des artistes qui font part de leur vision personnelle du colonialisme.
